Temperature changes were more sensitive and more dramatic than changes in relative humidity in producing obvious effects on cell function. Using this tissue culture system, the effects of changes in relative humidity on TGEV infection were examined in the presence of, first, an antibody directed against TGEV and, second, normal serum. Serum antibodies, but not TGEV neutralizing antibodies, appeared to protect cells from damage due to changes in relative humidity. Partially purified, type II TGEV neutralized both the antibody directed against TGEV and the normal serum.
